BIOGRAPHY

A band born of melody, song writing maturity and focused vision, beyond its mere three year existence. This is the pedigree with which HEROES WEAR RED presents its self to the world.

As is the developmental process of a band, HEROES now finds its self settled, in the form of a four piece, able to create melancholy, light and shade, with the precision of pop appeal.

HEROES, founded by bass player Gavin Wienand and vocalist Timothy kroon, prove to be a formidable song writing team, rounded off by the new addition of drummer Patrick Smith and guitarist Tumi Mothei.  The subtle use of programming, combined with energy of a rock band that delivers strong pop songs is a formula which proves to be fresh and widely appealing.

2008 saw the independent release of the band’s debut album, “SURVIVING SEPTEMBER”. The limited and exclusive release to retail will in 2009 step up a gear. HEROES have joined forces with MUSKETEER RECORDS to further improve on the success of this already critically acclaimed album. Co- produced and mixed, with additional programming by American producer Rae Dileo, known for his work on Filter, Veruca Salt and Henry Rollins, to name a few, brings international quality to the album.

HEROES plans to carry its sound work ethic into a new phase of this album with national tours and a new wave of promotion. Exclusive merchandise, new and unreleased material on line, and video’s all to come, NOW is the time to listen.

With the release of the new Heroes Wear Red single “Bring Me Love” only weeks away, the announcement of the MK MVP winners is incredible news for the band about to take your breath away.

MK Music Video Project (MVP) - top 10 announced

Ten local artists will each get R50k from MK to produce a music video

Lights, camera, action! The top 10 MK Music Video Project (MVP) artists for 2010 have been selected. Aiming to invest in and uplift the South African music and production industry, MK recently commissioned 10 local music videos by putting a tender out to pitch. 196 pitches were submitted in the space of a month.

To enter, bands had to partner with a reputable and registered South African production company and conceptualise a superior quality, creative music video concept for one of their as yet un-filmed tracks.

With a balance of both established artists and newcomers, the music videos are set to be world class. The top 10 are:

• Jack Parow, Tussen Stasies submitted by Ten10 Films
• Foto na Dans, Die Vloed submitted by Admit One Productions
• The Cavalier, Kiss and Tell submitted by Tough Sunday Productions
• Will Mono ft. Jax Panik, Ken My Nie submitted by Foml Films
• Thieve ft. Die Heuwels Fantasties, Way To Go submitted by The African Attachment
• MC, Earl & Algemi, Dakskroef submitted by Blixem Productions
Heroes Wear Red, Bring Me Love submitted by Mannequin Productions
• Winterstasie, Los My submitted by The Magic Factory
• 4am, Steering Ships submitted by Unleashed
• CrashCarBurn, Long Live Tonight submitted by 7Films

The top 10 were chosen by a MK selection panel who considered elements such as the production company’s experience; the choice of artist and song; the creative concept and treatment of the music video; the budget and production value; how well the concept complemented the MK brand and the appeal for its viewers.

Says Victor Edward Eckard, Head of Content at MK: “MVP was created to recognise and expose the wealth of talent that the South African music industry has to offer. It aims to encourage collaboration, uplift the industry and offer both bands and production companies a platform through which to showcase their work. Year on year we hope to grow this project and if the quality of the pitches we received is anything to go by, we can look forward to some interesting and powerful collaborations and of course, exceptional content.”

MK Musiekvideo-projek (MVP) – toptien aangekondig

Tien plaaslike kunstenaars gaan elk R50 000 van MK kry om ’n musiekvideo te vervaardig

Ligte, kamera, aksie!

• The Cavalier, Kiss and Tell voorgelê deur Tough Sunday Productions
• Will Mono met Jax Panik, Ken my nie voorgelê deur Foml Films
• Thieve met Die Heuwels Fantasties, Way To Go voorgelê deur The African Attachment
• MC, Earl & Algemi, Dakskroef voorgelê deur Blixem Productions
Heroes Wear Red, Bring Me Love voorgelê deur Mannequin Productions
• Winterstasie, Los my voorgelê deur The Magic Factory
• 4am, Steering Ships voorgelê deur Unleashed
• CrashCarBurn, Long Live Tonight voorgelê deur 7Films

Musketeer Heavyweights Hit Hermanus
2009-12-18

Musketeer stable mates Heroes Wear Red, 7th Son and Sugardrive are set to take to the stage at this years Forbidden Fruit Festival in Hermanus.

Both 7th Son and Heroes have been on an extensive coastal tour through the month of December and will be rounding it all off with Forbidden Fruit.

SA legends Sugardrive make an appearence as well and the rare opportunity to see them in action in the flesh is one not to be missed.

 Forbidden Fruit Goes Coastal save-for-web-group-pic.jpg

Hermanus High School 22 December 10 bands 10 hours music festival

On the 22th December South Africa’s new festival experience Forbidden Fruit hits the coast, for a one- off mega band slam summer concert featuring a staggering ten bands over 10 hours of rocked out madness. The sleepy seaside town of Hermanus is preparing itself for a serious wakeup call as the largest outdoor music event ever in the Overberg, hits town.

The intriguing stellar line up covers the complete range of what is happening in the SA Rock scene.  From the enfant terribles of the Afrikaans scene Die Heuwels Fantasies and their angsty big brothers Van Coke Cartel through the indefinable percussive driven funk metal which is Napalma, the slinky summer skunk of 7Th Son, the -Rock-Pop-Blues-Jive of Hot Water, right through to crowd pleasing upstarts Heroes Wear Red, the line up is a fat juicy slice of what is really mattering, music wise today.

Add to that local coastal stalwarts Akkedis and Cape Town favourites  Reburn, all leading up to an incredible finale from, the soon to be stadium rock gods, the indie darlings The Dirty Skirts and the band who have been called by many as the greatest SA alternative rock back ever  -Sugardrive, it verges on audio overdose territory.

For the price of some single band gigs you get yourself a day long fest with some of the most decadent delights that SA rock as to offer, all crammed into an unmissable musical feast. Forbidden? This festival is going to so darn bad, rightfully it should be banned!

Heroes Launch Long Awaited Video
2009-09-30
The long awaited Heroes Wear Red video for the forthcoming single “Am I” hits South African TV on 15th October 2009. An Exclusive MK broadcast will be pre-empted by a Studio 1 teaser.

Directed by industry heavyweight Ash Dibben of Hypnotic Films, the video is shot with the class and style of Album_cover.jpgDibben’s award winning R&B masterpieces. His foray into rock music video with “Am I” is testament to his talent and ability as a director across the board.

Starring Elma Smit (TV presenter) as the leading lady - the video is a tongue-in-cheek juxtaposition of everyday life and the sweaty glamour of rock and roll.

Vocalist Tim Kroon explains “This song’s about having fun with a stereotype, playing the role...a bit of fun for everyone, against the backdrop of a catchy rock ‘n roll beat. It’s time to shake things up a bit.

Catchy indeed – the latest single off the band’s debut Surviving September is definitely provocative and is poised to shake things up a bit. After the phenomenal success of Beautiful Way the band is showing true grit, and a few more teeth.

Don’t miss the band live in action at the official video launch shows:

23rd October – Zula Sound Bar (Cape Town)

Media please RSVP to david@musketeer.co.za. There will be gift packs for the press/media that RSVP, courtesy of HWR & Electronic Arts on the night.

Rock Out Radio Comes to Gauteng
2009-05-25

As you may know by now Rock Out Radio have established the dates for the Launches in Gauteng.

We plan to have a Launch party and Raise Funds on the 1st of August in Pretoria and in Johannesburg area on 11 September.

These parties will be marketed heavily and continue to use all forms of media to spread the word of Rock Out Radio providing South Africa with SA Rock 24/7 and 365!

The Gigs

Each gig includes four rock bands. Each gig will have a significantly popular Gauteng based band as headliner. Each gig will also be broadcasted Live onto the streaming audio of Rock Out Radio. In terms of size we'd prefer the Venues to have at least a 450 capacity and not too far out.

I'd like to ask your suggestions on Venues and Bands that would be perfect for these launches. If you have contact details that would be AWESOME.

Feel free to reply to this e-mail. Would be great to involve the friendly rock fans of Gauteng in this project!

Thank you so much for your support!

Just thought I'd let you all know that the Launches at Mercury and Zula were both AWESOME. We really did well in terms of numbers and the flow of each event. Ever since these launches our listenership has gone up by almost an additional 1000 listeners a week and Rock Out Radio has been in the newspapers and certain magazines as well as online on event and music sites.

I'd like to thank Kevin and Sean from Mercury and Vusa from Zula Bar for letting us use their venues and helping out in the cause. It has played a big role in the growth of Rock Out Radio and we are proud to be working with venues such as Mercury and Zula.

I'd also like to thank the bands Hog Hoggidy Hog, Autopilot, Reburn, The Undefind, Kings of Vegas, Red Light In June, Cat String Theory, Skyeclad so far for giving us awesome shows. Your efforts in helping Rock Out Radio have been amazing.

2009-04-16

save-for-web-group-pic.jpgHeroes Wear Red saw 10th April bringing a record breaking 5 weeks at the number 1 position on SA's biggest national station 5FM. Touted by DJ's as the most important song in the history of the Hi5@5, there can be no mistaking the quality and appeal of the bands debut single "Beautiful Way".

HWR Breaks A Hi5@5 Record
2009-03-16
The band is now already celebrating their 2nd Number 1 single for “Beautiful Way”  from their debut album ‘Surviving September’.

“…Hot!…easily the biggest song on the Hi5… “ DJ Fresh

Said the 5FM DJ the very day Heroes Wear Red shot to Numero One on the Hi5 @ 5 with their single “Beautiful Way”, setting a new record for the chart by jumping 12 places in one week.

“It’s great news, it means that people are connecting with our music – and that is what we’ve wanted to accomplish since day one of HWR.  We’d also like to thank all the 5FM DJ’s for getting behind the band, and behind the single.”  Says singer Tim Kroon

The band is currently touring Gauteng with Prime Circle, you can catch them live @ The Rustic Theatre in Lonehil on the 24th April or at Joburg Burning (Cool Runnings) in Melville this Saturday (21st March).

HWR’s debut album ‘Surviving September’ was co-produced and mixed by LA scene veteran Rae Dileo, who’s past work includes Filter, Veruca Salt, Henry Rollins and believe it or not, Grand Master Flash. The album shows it’s perfect precision and an immense wealth of honest songwriting that you can’t help but drown in. A world-class album in every respect, indeed something to be very proud of.
